I am so confused. When IS Christmas? Do retailers rush the calendar to cram in more sales? Do consumers "buy" int this? I kind of think so. Why else would you see Christmas items for sale in mid September? Thanksgiving is really my favorite holiday. Well, other than my birthday. That day and the gifts are all mine! In case you didn't know, every few years my birthday lands on Thanksgiving. Lucky me. Two favorite holidays on ONE day!
So, what does this have to do with Pysanky? Well, a lot. I have been working on tree ornaments for three weeks. Some years I think it will be my last year for tree ornaments. THEN something sparks my interest and I am elbow deep in chicken eggs. This year I am decorating many with encaustic wax. It's my new love affair with wax. I am finding it rather easy to finish several in a day if I stick to it. It seems there is a never ending combination of dye colors and wax colors and egg shell colors and egg shell size and, and......it isn't stopping. I am addicted.

Hi, my name is Jane Chevalier and I am addicted to Pysanky. This is my first blog. I am sure I will get the hang of it. I have been working hard on my web site for the past two weeks. There is still much to do. Adding tutorials and helpful hints and possibly an instructional video. If there is anything in particular you would like to see, please let me know.
Egg art has been my passion since I moved to New Mexico in 2009. Although I learned this art back in 1987, or about, I didn't consider myself an artist before the move. New Mexico has always had a reputation as a magnate for artists. I have to admit there is something to that. Plus being retired had something to do with having the time to explore this art. I have dedicated 2013 to finding my own style of egg art and giving this web site birth. Some will say that the word "pysanka/y" refers to traditional designs only. Perhaps that is true. I think that the "tissue effect" applies here as well. We tend to call all facial tissue Kleenex regardless of the brand. So, we call batik egg art pysanka. I look forward to reading your posts. Keep in mind this is about egg art using beeswax and dye. If your egg art includes glue and glitter you won't find much to talk about here. I respect and even admire egg art that includes glue, glitter and hinges, it is not for me. |
