Beautiful Eggs by Jane
(Faberjane Eggs-Pysanky)

Pysanky is an ancient art form from Ukraine. The eggs are colored using a wax and dye process called batik. Traditionally, dyes were made from a variety of plants, nuts, bark and berries. Today, dyes are made from more modern materials. A fine tipped stylus is used to draw a design on the egg using beeswax and then it is dyed with the lightest color of the design. More wax is added to the egg before the egg is dipped in the next darkest color. This process is repeated until the design is finished. The wax is removed using a candle flame. The beautiful pysanky is now revealed!
